Construction IT
Asite Solutions Limited is an innovative leader in the provision of SaaS (Software as a Service) to the construction industry. Asite was formed in 2001 as a response to the construction industry’s lack of software solutions. The construction industry was jolted into serious action by the release of the ReThinking Construction report by Sir John Egan in 1998. Poor Supply chain integration, tendering only on cost, poor communication between client and contractor, were all issues that Sir John identified as massive issues
within a poorly performing sector. However when he, as Chairman of BAA came to use IT to address these concerns, there was no suitable provider of construction IT. This was in great contrast to Sir John’s experience of supply chain integration in the automotive industry, when he ran Jaguar cars. Sir John got together with other senior industry executives such as Peter Rogers of Stanhope to form Asite.
Since formation Asite has led the way in the provision of construction IT. It is the only provider that has solutions which cover;
- Sourcing – ensuring that you are trading with stable suppliers
- Collaboration – enabling all the members of a project to work together
- Trading – an electronic environment – enabling a paperless system from requisition to payment
All of these environments are linked together by the Building Information Model (BIM). The BIM is a tool that enables 3D modelling to take place in a collaborative environment. More than just a 3D model which only stores graphical information, BIM incorporates "Smart Objects"; For example an air conditioning unit within a BIM would also contain data about its supplier, lead in times, operation and maintenance procedures, flow rates and clearance requirements. Asite BIM recognises that different organisations within a project
team will be responsible for different elements of a building. Within Asite's Collaboration platform, users can interact with the overall BIM model containing the models uploaded by each party. By linking "Smart Objects" to catalogues stored within Asite's procurement systems, real-time pricing, availability and even purchasing of the components required to build the asset can be managed. With the forthcoming release of BIM, Asite is taking collaboration to the Nth dimension. Construction IT taken to a new level.
At a ReThinking Construction Update event held in October 2006, Sir John Egan commented that Asite had delivered on his vision. A provider of software that enables clients and their supply chains to work together in partnership. Construction IT that enables project teams from numerous companies and often based in different countries to seamlessly work together sharing documents. Software that is unique in offering the facility for "purchase to pay" e-procurement in construction software.
Of course Asite is not the only provider of construction IT software, but as well as innovative software, it is the team of experienced consultants that make the company stand out– it’s a real SaaS solution. Our consultants have many years industry background in the construction IT industry and are able to ensure that projects are configured,
implemented and trained correctly first time. We ensure that each and every project that we work upon is delivered on time and within budget. The abilities of our consultants is clearly illustrated in the e-procurement solutions that we have delivered at Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport. Due to local resident concerns about construction traffic, there is only one gate for construction traffic to enter. Set the challenge of keeping on site stock to a minimum then we have delivered a kanban solution, also known as just in time, for Laing O’Rourke
where the stock is bar coded. When stock is removed from the T5 warehouse, it is scanned, which keeps an up to date stock level at the suppliers depot. When pre-determined stock levels are hit, the system automatically generates a request for a delivery to take place, ensuring that whilst stock on site is kept at a minimum level, it never runs out.
Asite Solutions Limited continues to lead the way in construction IT. If you would like more information please contact us via marketing@asite.com or +44 (0)207 749 7880.
