The 2019 European Women In Construction & Engineering - Wice Awards

Posted by Adoddle on 16-Apr-2019 06:20:54
European Women In Construction & Engineering Summit -  25th April, Grange Tower Bridge
Wice Awards Dinner – 21st May, London Hilton Park Lane

Celebrating its 5th year, the European Women In Construction & Engineering Awards is one of the most prestigious events celebrating the achievements of women in these sectors. We are proud and excited to announce that our Asite Bid Manager Leen Saeb is selected as a finalist for the 2019 European Women In Construction & Engineering Awards and nominated for Best Woman in Business Development category.

According to the Department of Civil & Building Engineering, Loughborough University, UK; "The construction sector plays an important role in economic growth, however, the construction sector remains male-dominated and women’s growing role as decision-makers and buyers is not reflected by their input into construction innovation and creativity."

Breaking Down Barriers And Building New Heights

Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9% of UK engineering professionals are women, 18% Spain, 26% in Sweden and 20% in Italy.

The aim of the awards is to make these industries more enticing to women. To create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries.

CDBB - BIM Level 2 Roundtable Discussion Series

Posted by Adoddle on 22-Mar-2019 06:03:29

BIM Level 2 provides important foundations that will help enable delivery of a future digital economy, it is therefore vitally important that the construction industry continue their progress towards delivery of BIM Level 2 as business as usual and it is for this reason the roundtable series is being held.

Discussions will include subject areas such as training, constructor, professional service provider, manufacturer, and SME engagement, and also technology provision, with the aim of gaining an improved understanding of progress to date and what still remains to be achieved.

Where:

The Chartered Institute of Building, 9 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6XF

Date and time:

Mon, 25 March 2019, 13:00 - 17:00.

Nathan Doughty, COO at Asite will be joining the Technology Providers round table discussions around how Asite are delivering BIM Level 2 as the CDE for the University of Cambridge. Here are the details for the discussion:

'Delivery of BIM Level 2, and in turn a digital build Britain, is reliant on the use of appropriate technologies, are technology providers meeting this need and what are they doing to help make BIM Level 2 'business as usual'?'

With clients and Tier 1 contractors increasingly looking to procure the beneficial outputs of BIM Level 2, in particular quality assured information/data, helping them to improve not only capital delivery but also to deliver full-life operational efficiencies, what part do Technology companies play in achieving these goals?

Posted by Adoddle on 19-Mar-2019 00:21:00

Join Asite's team this year at Cowes Week Regatta on 10-17 August. It is one of the largest yachting regattas in the world running since 1826 and now attracts over 1000 yachts and up to 8000 racers from all over the world.

Racing takes place on the Solent, a challenging stretch of water between the Isle of Wight and the ‘North Island’ as the locals call the mainland. Running over 8 days, this regatta is full on with some fantastic sail activities culminating in the famous Cowes Week Fireworks on the last Friday.

Cowes Week campaign is based out of Cowes Yacht Haven in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. There is usually one race per day lasting around 4 to 6 hours and most racing utilises the many laid race marks around the Solent itself.

It starts on 10th August and Asite's ATeam is going to be there. Let's rock the boat and let the good times flow with Adoddle!

About the Webinar:

Unlocking the transformational benefits of Digital Engineering means challenging the traditional way of delivery and bringing additional value. Join us for an enlightening and thought provoking session on Digital Engineering for the AEC sector!
Digital Engineering, or Building Information Modelling (BIM), is about more than creating models. It is about unlocking knowledge and insight, creating the platform for true collaboration.

This state-of-the-art digital prototyping technology enables us to integrate data about a building’s design, construction and future function to develop the most efficient methods of delivery and operation.

To put it simply, if it can be built in the ‘virtual’ world of BIM, then it can be built in the real world.

CIBSE YEN London & London South Bank University present... The Paperless Office

Posted by Adoddle on 07-Oct-2015 01:09:00

They said "future offices will be paperless" when computers began entering the workplace. They also said the paper letter will be replaced by e-mail. Neither has come true – until now!

Since being introduced to the workplace the computer has evolved from being an office equipment item to an indispensable tool for multiple industries, including our own. Gone are the days when we relied on postal communications, which could take days. In the internet connected office communications can be sent in seconds. This created a new problem however: the excessive printing of emails and their attachments to appraise what can seem like a never-ending series of revisions, which are now occurring faster than ever as a result of rapid communications.

In the year 2015 mobile devices, such as phones and tablets, have matured to such an extent that they are considered indispensable tools for many engineers in much the same way as a computer. With this rise in mobile devices, and more integrated cloud based software solutions, it is time to ditch that trusty office companion - the printer!

This event features first-hand experience from our committee’s own Dwight Wilson as he trials a paperless workflow in his office. We will also be joined by Nick Blenkarn of Seeable to demonstrate a software solution to the "I'll print you a copy" problem which we face with 3D BIM models.
