The Grand Arcade scheme for entailed the redevelopment of a major part of the Cambridge City Centre. The redevelopment site was the area bordered by St Andrew's Street (from the Post Office to Heffers Plus), Downing Street (up to the Crowne Plaza), St Tibbs Row and the Lion Yard Shopping Centre.

The site also includes the current Lion Yard car park. The existing properties (excluding the historic frontage) were demolished to make way for a new department store, more shops and a replacement car park. An arcade will run through the centre of the development from St Andrews Street to a central atrium where it meets another arcade linking from Lion Yard.
