Little Britain Challenge Cup 2020

Asite joins The Little Britain Challenge Cup (LBCC) 2020 for the seventh year running

The Little Britain Challenge Cup (LBCC) is the property and construction industry’s annual sailing regatta held in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Since its establishment in 1988, the event has attracted hundreds of companies and thousands of crews within the AEC Sector, making it one of the most anticipated networking events.

The main purpose of the event is to raise money for numerous sailing charities such as The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, The Cirdan Sailing Trust, and a host of other small sailing charities. Surplus profits and donations are shared between the charities and over the past 30 years the LBCC has raised over £1.5 million. Asite is a proud platinum sponsor of the event as it reaches its 33rd edition.

2020 will see the event being significantly reduced to comply with new government guidelines put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will be condensed to a one-day event, with three races taking place over the course of the day. The event is also being held in Port Solent, Portsmouth rather than its usual home in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Onshore social events will not take place as intended, due to imposed social distancing rules. Unfortunately, this means the Asite pontoon party which the company has hosted over the years for the sailing crews after a day of racing, providing entertainment, refreshments, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere to mark the end of a busy sailing day, cannot take place.

Little Britain Challenge Cup 2021 will aim to mirror the 2019 event and return back to normality. To read more about LBCC 2020 Click here.

Mindful of the effects the industry has suffered due to the pandemic, the LBCC was reorganised to continue to support the charities and the UK Sailing Industry. Many of the charities that LBCC aims to provide support to have experienced a reduction in funding due to the effects of COVID-19.
