25 Years of Asite: Building the Future of Construction Collaboration

2 minute read

25 years ago, Asite was founded on a simple belief: construction projects work better when everyone works from the same information.

That belief remains as relevant today as it was in 2001.

Over the past quarter of a century, the built environment has transformed. Projects have become larger, more complex, and more globally connected. Digital delivery has become the expectation rather than the exception. New regulations have raised the bar for accountability. And the pace of change continues to accelerate with AI.

Through every stage of that journey, one thing has remained constant: collaboration is the foundation of successful project delivery. In this blog, we reflect on 25 years of Asite’s innovation across the industry.

Grounded in information management standards

July 2026 marks Asite's 25th anniversary. Asite was one of the first leading companies to build a cloud-based document management system for the built environment, designed specifically to make collaboration work.

For 25 years, Asite has helped transform how information is managed across the built environment, pioneering Common Data Environment technology and contributing to the development of industry standards. Today, with more than 95,000 organisations across 120 countries using Asite, our strategy is to build the connected, intelligent and AI-enabled platform for the entire project and asset lifecycle.

Built for the entire project lifecycle

Today, Asite’s information management product portfolio goes beyond the confines of a CDE to encapsulate the entire project lifecycle. From supply chain management to contract management and 3D BIM.

Many platforms handle document storage well during design and construction, then lose relevance at handover, one of the riskiest moments for data loss. Asite's platform is built to cover the entire project lifecycle, from early design, through construction, into operation, so the information gathered along the way isn’t lost. The right information stays reachable by the right people, in the right format, for as long as the asset exists.

Leading what comes next

The next shift in construction technology is already underway. Storing and sharing information solved an access problem. The next problem is volume: Project teams now generate more data than any person can manually review, chase, or act on in real time.

AI in construction has moved fast over the last two years, from something teams were cautious about to something they're actively putting to work. That’s where agentic AI comes in, tools that act on data directly inside the CDE, instead of displaying it. The recent launch of Asite Virtual Coworkers™: AI built to help organisations spend less time manually chasing down the right document or the right approval; and more time spent making decisions.

Twenty-five years in, still leading

For 25 years, Asite has helped the built environment transform the way projects manage information and collaborate.

As we look ahead, we're excited by what's next. Intelligent technologies will help teams move beyond simply managing information to making faster, smarter decisions with it.

To our customers, partners, and people, thank you for being part of our journey. Here's to the next 25 years of building smarter, together.
