According to the Department of Civil & Building Engineering, Loughborough University, UK; "The construction sector plays an important role in economic growth, however, the construction sector remains male-dominated and women’s growing role as decision-makers and buyers is not reflected by their input into construction innovation and creativity."
Breaking Down Barriers And Building New Heights
Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9% of UK engineering professionals are women, 18% Spain, 26% in Sweden and 20% in Italy.
The aim of the awards is to make these industries more enticing to women. To create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries.

Unlocking the transformational benefits of Digital Engineering means challenging the traditional way of delivery and bringing additional value. Join us for an enlightening and thought provoking session on Digital Engineering for the AEC sector!
Digital Engineering, or Building Information Modelling (BIM), is about more than creating models. It is about unlocking knowledge and insight, creating the platform for true collaboration.
This state-of-the-art digital prototyping technology enables us to integrate data about a building’s design, construction and future function to develop the most efficient methods of delivery and operation.
To put it simply, if it can be built in the ‘virtual’ world of BIM, then it can be built in the real world.

“Sustained leadership from central Government is crucial to maintain industry commitment to invest in BIM capability.” – Government Construction Strategy 2016-20
E-Procurement is gaining popularity in the construction business and a variety of benefits have encouraged its adoption, such as an increase in competitiveness and reducing of costs. E-Procurement could bring significant value to firms, but it seems people know very little empirically about the actual outcomes of its implementation in the construction industry.
A user forum for the Adoddle community, this exclusive bi- annual event promises to deliver an enriching and thought-leading experience.
This year the construction community will come together for the second Digital Construction Expo (previously called the Construction IT Event) to meet hundreds of exhibitors from across the construction supply chain. DCE 2017 is dedicated to promoting standards and technology in the built environment. As the only event to showcase digital construction in Africa, the growth of the sector on the continent, arguable led by Southern Africa, translates into considerable demand for this event.
Hear our guest speakers describe their own implementation journeys and how they have benefited from a project information management system, tailored to their specific needs.

Is your firm sharing files and documents effectively? Many contractors are finding that challenges around file sharing are adding to projects costs and risks. This new seminar from Asite shows you how to solve these issues.
The future has arrived, and it’s saving us money. Building Information Modelling (BIM) achieved a cost saving of £840 million on capital projects in 2013/14, through the Government’s BIM Level 2 initiative. Initial estimations in the 2012 Building Information Modelling report, however, suggested that savings of £2 billion per annum could be achieved through widespread use of BIM. With levels of BIM uptake plateauing, according to the 2015 National BIM Survey, the potential benefits of BIM are not being fully exploited. In addition to bolstering the economy, BIM provides the gateway to advancements in building technology, the realisation of the ‘Internet of Things’ and improvements in the environmental sustainability of the construction industry. Barriers such as lack of awareness and insufficient client demands must be overcome if these advantages are to be realised.
Hear the guest speakers describe their own implementation journeys and how they have benefited from a project information management system, tailored to their specific needs.
We have gathered together a group of experienced practitioners in collaborative working to share with you best practice for BIM in multi-disciplinary teams. The format will be short presentations on the perspectives of each panelist based on their experiences in the field, followed by a round table discussion where the experts will take your questions.

The Government Construction Strategy was published in 2011, requiring collaborative 3D BIM (BIM Level 2) on its projects by 2016. Now with the target date imminent, the key questions are how ready are you and what happens next?
Whilst growth rates in the construction industry across most of Australia have tapered-off recently, Sydney’s construction sector continues to boom. Sydney’s economy is arguably the strongest in Australia as the city continues to develop itself into a global metropolis and financial hub. Phenomenal growth rates in the property market driven by a chronic under supply of dwellings, has led to a record number of unit approvals in recent times. Meanwhile high numbers of infrastructure projects are ensuring the construction sector in Sydney continues to outpace the rest of Australia. From transport to residential construction; from university refurbishment to the Barangaroo project – the number of infrastructure & construction projects in Sydney is vast and wide ranging. Sydney Build is the leading new Construction Expo for Sydney. Sydney Build is the ideal opportunity for your organisation to get involved in Sydney’s booming construction industry; and to access major contractors, developers and suppliers from Sydney and across Australia.
New York City, and the wider state as a whole, is currently undergoing one of the biggest construction booms in the world. It is expected that New York City construction spending is set to reach over $35 billion annually and, with it, employment rates will surge. A return to economic growth, a rocketing residential market (particularly for luxury properties), multiple government infrastructure projects, and increased foreign investment, are all factors driving New York’s construction sector to growth rates not seen since pre-2008 levels. The opportunities this creates for infrastructure and construction projects are vast.

More than half the world’s population now live in urban areas and this number is forecast to rise to 70 per cent by 2050. Smart systems are now critical to achieving long term sustainability. City leaders must balance the demands of improving and strengthening financial results, creating an attractive place in which to live and work, whilst also reducing environmental impact.

They said "future offices will be paperless" when computers began entering the workplace. They also said the paper letter will be replaced by e-mail. Neither has come true – until now!
Since being introduced to the workplace the computer has evolved from being an office equipment item to an indispensable tool for multiple industries, including our own. Gone are the days when we relied on postal communications, which could take days. In the internet connected office communications can be sent in seconds. This created a new problem however: the excessive printing of emails and their attachments to appraise what can seem like a never-ending series of revisions, which are now occurring faster than ever as a result of rapid communications.
In the year 2015 mobile devices, such as phones and tablets, have matured to such an extent that they are considered indispensable tools for many engineers in much the same way as a computer. With this rise in mobile devices, and more integrated cloud based software solutions, it is time to ditch that trusty office companion - the printer!
This event features first-hand experience from our committee’s own Dwight Wilson as he trials a paperless workflow in his office. We will also be joined by Nick Blenkarn of Seeable to demonstrate a software solution to the "I'll print you a copy" problem which we face with 3D BIM models.
The prevalence of inaccurate & deficient information has become an increasing problem for the government. The most important requirement for making good decisions is information.
Poor quality data limits the effectiveness of the decision-making process and significantly impacts Service & Project delivery. Join us and learn how to solve these issues and network with like-minded professionals.
