The 2019 European Women In Construction & Engineering - Wice Awards

Posted by Adoddle on 16-Apr-2019 06:20:54
European Women In Construction & Engineering Summit -  25th April, Grange Tower Bridge
Wice Awards Dinner – 21st May, London Hilton Park Lane

Celebrating its 5th year, the European Women In Construction & Engineering Awards is one of the most prestigious events celebrating the achievements of women in these sectors. We are proud and excited to announce that our Asite Bid Manager Leen Saeb is selected as a finalist for the 2019 European Women In Construction & Engineering Awards and nominated for Best Woman in Business Development category.

According to the Department of Civil & Building Engineering, Loughborough University, UK; "The construction sector plays an important role in economic growth, however, the construction sector remains male-dominated and women’s growing role as decision-makers and buyers is not reflected by their input into construction innovation and creativity."

Breaking Down Barriers And Building New Heights

Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9% of UK engineering professionals are women, 18% Spain, 26% in Sweden and 20% in Italy.

The aim of the awards is to make these industries more enticing to women. To create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries.

CDBB - BIM Level 2 Roundtable Discussion Series

Posted by Adoddle on 22-Mar-2019 06:03:29

BIM Level 2 provides important foundations that will help enable delivery of a future digital economy, it is therefore vitally important that the construction industry continue their progress towards delivery of BIM Level 2 as business as usual and it is for this reason the roundtable series is being held.

Discussions will include subject areas such as training, constructor, professional service provider, manufacturer, and SME engagement, and also technology provision, with the aim of gaining an improved understanding of progress to date and what still remains to be achieved.

Where:

The Chartered Institute of Building, 9 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6XF

Date and time:

Mon, 25 March 2019, 13:00 - 17:00.

Nathan Doughty, COO at Asite will be joining the Technology Providers round table discussions around how Asite are delivering BIM Level 2 as the CDE for the University of Cambridge. Here are the details for the discussion:

'Delivery of BIM Level 2, and in turn a digital build Britain, is reliant on the use of appropriate technologies, are technology providers meeting this need and what are they doing to help make BIM Level 2 'business as usual'?'

With clients and Tier 1 contractors increasingly looking to procure the beneficial outputs of BIM Level 2, in particular quality assured information/data, helping them to improve not only capital delivery but also to deliver full-life operational efficiencies, what part do Technology companies play in achieving these goals?

Digital Engineering, or Building Information Modelling (BIM), is about more than creating models. It is about unlocking knowledge and insight, creating the platform for true collaboration.

This state-of-the-art digital prototyping technology enables us to integrate data about a building’s design, construction and future function to develop the most efficient methods of delivery and operation.

To put it simply, if it can be built in the ‘virtual’ world of BIM, then it can be built in the real world.

Join the ATeam at The Annual BIM Conference in London to meet Adoddle

Posted by Emily Hodges on 24-Jan-2017 07:00:00

The future has arrived, and it’s saving us money. Building Information Modelling (BIM) achieved a cost saving of £840 million on capital projects in 2013/14, through the Government’s BIM Level 2 initiative. Initial estimations in the 2012 Building Information Modelling report, however, suggested that savings of £2 billion per annum could be achieved through widespread use of BIM. With levels of BIM uptake plateauing, according to the 2015 National BIM Survey, the potential benefits of BIM are not being fully exploited. In addition to bolstering the economy, BIM provides the gateway to advancements in building technology, the realisation of the ‘Internet of Things’ and improvements in the environmental sustainability of the construction industry. Barriers such as lack of awareness and insufficient client demands must be overcome if these advantages are to be realised.

Posted by Emily Hodges on 10-Mar-2016 09:00:00

Whilst growth rates in the construction industry across most of Australia have tapered-off recently, Sydney’s construction sector continues to boom. Sydney’s economy is arguably the strongest in Australia as the city continues to develop itself into a global metropolis and financial hub. Phenomenal growth rates in the property market driven by a chronic under supply of dwellings, has led to a record number of unit approvals in recent times. Meanwhile high numbers of infrastructure projects are ensuring the construction sector in Sydney continues to outpace the rest of Australia. From transport to residential construction; from university refurbishment to the Barangaroo project – the number of infrastructure & construction projects in Sydney is vast and wide ranging. Sydney Build is the leading new Construction Expo for Sydney. Sydney Build is the ideal opportunity for your organisation to get involved in Sydney’s booming construction industry; and to access major contractors, developers and suppliers from Sydney and across Australia.

Asite to present & exhibit at New York Build

Posted by Emily Hodges on 07-Mar-2016 10:00:00

New York City, and the wider state as a whole, is currently undergoing one of the biggest construction booms in the world. It is expected that New York City construction spending is set to reach over $35 billion annually and, with it, employment rates will surge. A return to economic growth, a rocketing residential market (particularly for luxury properties), multiple government infrastructure projects, and increased foreign investment, are all factors driving New York’s construction sector to growth rates not seen since pre-2008 levels. The opportunities this creates for infrastructure and construction projects are vast.

CIBSE YEN London & London South Bank University present... The Paperless Office

Posted by Adoddle on 07-Oct-2015 01:09:00

They said "future offices will be paperless" when computers began entering the workplace. They also said the paper letter will be replaced by e-mail. Neither has come true – until now!

Since being introduced to the workplace the computer has evolved from being an office equipment item to an indispensable tool for multiple industries, including our own. Gone are the days when we relied on postal communications, which could take days. In the internet connected office communications can be sent in seconds. This created a new problem however: the excessive printing of emails and their attachments to appraise what can seem like a never-ending series of revisions, which are now occurring faster than ever as a result of rapid communications.

In the year 2015 mobile devices, such as phones and tablets, have matured to such an extent that they are considered indispensable tools for many engineers in much the same way as a computer. With this rise in mobile devices, and more integrated cloud based software solutions, it is time to ditch that trusty office companion - the printer!

This event features first-hand experience from our committee’s own Dwight Wilson as he trials a paperless workflow in his office. We will also be joined by Nick Blenkarn of Seeable to demonstrate a software solution to the "I'll print you a copy" problem which we face with 3D BIM models.

Projects Controls & Collaboration Breakfast Seminar in Johannesburg

Posted by Emily Hodges on 10-Feb-2015 07:00:00
It’s no secret that successful construction companies are built on successful projects.  Unfortunately construction companies lose millions each year due to shortfalls in software functionality.  Shortfalls typically range from; lack of transparency, restricted access to information, outdated Excel and PDF reports, limited access to “real-time” information and data loss.
  • Is your company equipped with a comprehensive project control solution that enables all the people in your company and project to collaborate?
  • Does your current software have the integration and visibility to keep all members informed of real-time estimating and cost control?
  • Does your software have insight to ensure the initiatives support strategic tender or project deadlines, the control to workflow decisions, take action and communicate new directions as project conditions change?

Asite’s award winning platform, Adoddle, provides a powerful cloud-based construction management tool that is securely hosted by Dimension Data.

The majority of AEC companies are currently using server based systems such as Estimating, Project planning & Scheduling, ERP software and Document Management - Asite enables seamless secure integration with these systems to collate information within a single-view and enhance the estimating, planning & decision making for tenders and projects whilst:

  • supporting operational decision making in the cloud,
  • reduce the workload and software licensing costs,
  • improve the quality of work
  • ensuring confident control with transparency, accountability
  • keeping you in control of your project.

All roads lead to technology, and technology in construction enables all projects to function. With the technology front growing so rapidly in the construction industry, it is critically important that the industry instils digital working within their organisations. The effective management of data and information is now top of most business agendas.

Join Asite for a breakfast presentation that looks at the benefits of project controls & collaboration in the cloud and its exciting potential for the construction industry.

Who are we?
Asite’s global Information Management & Collaboration cloud platform, Adoddle, recently launched in South Africa in November in association with our partners Dimension Data.

What do we do?
Asite helps people share information and build knowledge in a secure environment in the cloud. Every day, people all over the world use Asite to manage their projects and supply chains collaboratively to get the information they need – when and where they need it. Organisations join Asite to go paperless, reduce their carbon footprint and reduce IT emissions. Asite also helps companies to measure and track their projects, sustainability initiatives and to share and learn best practices. Asite have their EMEA Head Office based in London’s tech-city, as well as regional offices in North America, Australia, India and now South Africa.

Who is invited?
We would like to invite the professionals from the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Infrastructure & Utilities communities to attend a Breakfast Seminar to meet Adoddle (Asite’s Dynamic On-Demand Data Logistics Engine) and the Ateam.

The building industry varies dramatically from region-to-region due to issues of climate, geography, politics and economics. ABX and the Boston Society of Architects help build long-term relationships around these shared experiences and challenges.
