BIM Academy 2.jpgOn November 27th – 29th, Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) professionals the world over gathered together for 48 hours to collaborate online for a fourth successive Build Live event – Build Qatar Live 2012. The interactive openBIM competition provided AEC and building information modelling (BIM) professionals with another opportunity to showcase their BIM skills by creating a design for The Museum of Architecture to be based on the hypothetical man-made BQL Island in Doha, Qatar.

Sponsored by Vectorworks, 12 teams entered from 41 countries including the USA, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Japan, Latvia, Germany, Qatar, Egypt, Australia, UK, Chile, Singapore, Romania, Canada, India amongst others. Teams received the design brief prior to the start of the event and produced the final BIM model which was uploaded and then viewable through Asite cBIM by observers and the judges.

Teams were able to showcase their BIM skills by delivering on a variety of criteria, including creating the most exciting design, demonstrating the best use of technology and collaboration by continuously updating the design on Asite’s Adoddle collaborative cloud platform. During the 48 hour event, there were 14,865 logins and 549 files published.

Asite COO Nathan Doughty commented ‘Build Qatar Live 2012 saw by far the most innovative and high-quality collaborative BIM efforts of any Build Live event yet.  The quality of the output from our globally distributed teams was simply astonishing within the 48-hour timeframe and is a clear reflection of the rapidly maturing collaborative design capabilities of the global AEC sector as a whole.’
