Build Hyperloop Live

Posted by Adoddle on 28-Aug-2016 10:00:00

In September of this year Asite will be holding its annual Build Earth Live event in Dubai.  I was delighted to have met His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi earlier this year and secure his support for the competition.  He quickly came on board as a key partner and his office became heavily involved in the preparation.  Much to my delight we got a call one day from his office to say that His Excellency wanted to fly the Ateam together with the 6 finalists and judges out to Dubai for the award ceremony - it's not everyday that happens :)

With His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, vice chairman of the Board of Trustees and managing director of Dubai Future Foundation partnership and backing this years event is going to be the biggest yet - with 46 teams currently registered - this is truly awesome.

We have watched and nurtured this event grow from its humble beginnings in 2012.  We are proud of our baby and how it has matured into a world class event of this stature, backed by one of the busiest countries in the world within the AEC community.

Being the front runner in the collaborative Building Information Modelling space, it is so fulfilling to see it truly flourish and for Adoddle cBIM to be at its centre as the only true model based server in the cloud.

This is the biggest event yet and with the might of our esteemed sponsors including Dubai Future Foundations, hyperloop | one, Vectorworks, RTA Dubai and building magazine supporting it, we have received a lot of coverage in the press - including CNN!!

Get to It

Here's the plug - if you haven't heard of it yet or would like to register visit -

Have fun.

Search for Big Data

Posted by Adoddle on 15-Jul-2016 10:00:00

Adoddle has enterprise search built-in; enabling organizations to turn “big data” - petabytes of information stored across documents, project forms, models, ecommerce messages - into useful results, without the need to shred the data. Adoddle indexes data in real time and makes it immediately searchable.

With the arrival of technologies like Hadoop, Spark and massive indexed data, the relevance of Big Data search is more certain. Before Big Data, traditional business intelligence efforts were focussed around adding Web search-like query interfaces. Scalability and Performance outputs of these efforts were mixed at best. Big Data search is now a necessity rather than a premium feature. Adoddle Search is a distributed indexing and search engine that combines fault tolerance and high availability in the cloud. Adoddle Search supports the following features:

  • Central configuration for the entire cluster
  • Automatic load balancing and fail-over for queries
  • ZooKeeper integration for cluster coordination and configuration

Adoddle uses latest open source big data cloud frameworks with Lucene as it’s core search engine library. Lucene is an Apache open source index library written in Java. Lucene was originally written by Doug Cutting, creator of Hadoop, in 1999. Lucene is based on the inverted index and provides many different features to enable advanced indexing and querying on many different data types.

The fundamental concepts in Lucene are index, document, field and term. An index contains a sequence of documents.

  • A document is a sequence of fields.
  • A term is a string.
  • A field is a named sequence of terms.

The same string in two different fields is considered a different term. Thus terms are represented as a pair of strings, the first naming the field, and the second naming text within the field. The index stores statistics about terms in order to make term-based search more efficient. Lucene's index falls into the family of indexes known as an inverted index. This is because it can list, for a term, the documents that contain it. This is the inverse of the natural relationship, in which documents list terms.

Adoddle users upload 296 megabytes of new data every minute of the day into Adoddle. The amount and rate of data generated every day is increasing exponentially. Adoddle receives 6000 insert / update requests per minute into it’s Global Index. Data is the new Oil. Data is just like crude. It’s valuable, but if unrefined it cannot really be used. Adoddle enables everyone across the enterprise to make big data driven decisions. ITs Adoddle.

hitchhiker's guide to the BIM Level 2 Galaxy

Posted by Adoddle on 07-Jul-2015 10:30:00

There has been much talk recently about BIM Level 2 and Common Data Environments (CDE) such as Satellite CDE’s, Constellation CDE’s and other variations of CDE.  At Asite we believe in and enable one CDE, with all the functionality that users are attempting to create using these variations.

The Adoddle CDE leverages the Adoddle Model Server (cBIM) and the Appbuilder engine to deliver powerful functionality for the entire project team down to each and every individual user. All of your models are federated, instead of existing as files in different folders and projects. Even though ownership of component models remain with the originators, everyone has a clear view of the merged model within cBIM.

The Adoddle Platform also:

  • Supports ACL so that the owners can update their own models and data is made available to other collaborators at the right time.
  • Supports cross model querying so everyone can see where objects are being used and where they could be used more effectively
  • Supports versioning so that everyone is working off the latest version
  • Supports accurate audit trails so that every user inter-action is tracked & reported on
  • Is flexible enough to allow people to work the way they want, whilst supporting rules that can also ensure all parties will follow agreed naming conventions

An example of a typical implementation (which can be customised to suit an organisation’s BIM strategy and working practices):

  • Clients, Contractors, Consultants and Suppliers are able to upload their documents and models within the Adoddle CDE with Work in Progress (WIP) statuses as per Employer Information Requirements (EIR)
  • Data that has a WIP status in the CDE is private until you need to Share It. The Client or Client representative reviews the data and assigns a "Published" Status.
  • Shared data is made available to the rest of the team for review, consumption and knowledge.
  • Post Construction, the data is available for Facilities Management on the Adoddle platform.

All of the above is achieved via collaborative working practices backed by accurate auditability on the Adoddle platform. A feat which just cannot be achieved if models are hidden away inside organisation’s firewall (real or virtual).

Adoddle cBIM™ is  BIM Level 2, enabling you to:

  • Selectively share your project model or individual BIM work-sets with project partners
  • Maintain a clear audit trail by tracking version control and updates to the model
  • Merge multiple model files and work-sets from different project partners and different design tools into one central model
  • View the differences between model file revisions
  • Collaboratively review and mark-up model files in the integrated 3D viewer
  • Associate views, schedules, and mark-ups with workflows and track actions across your team
  • Integrate document control and construction management with your BIM coordination process
  • Automatically generate reports such as Bills of Quantities (BOQ) from the model on a scheduled basis
  • Ability to Check files in & out so that they are readable but un-editable by other users whilst being worked upon
  • Ability to work offline with Adoddle’s Navigator App

Is IT Cloudy outside?

Posted by Adoddle on 11-May-2015 10:49:00

The term “Cloud” is abuzz everywhere.  When you think of Cloud – what comes to mind?  Cumulus, Cirrus, Stratus, Nimbus or are you thinking of Private, Public, Hybrid, or Community?

The first set includes a cloud you’d see when you walk out your door and look to the sky.  The second set as defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) include:

Private cloud. The cloud infrastructure is operated solely for an organization. It may be managed by the organization or a third party and may exist on-premise or off-premise.

Public cloud. The cloud infrastructure is made available to the general public or a large industry group and is owned by an organization selling cloud services.

Hybrid cloud. The cloud infrastructure is a composition of two or more clouds (private, community, or public) that remain unique entities but are bound together by standardized or proprietary technology that enables data and application portability (e.g., cloud bursting for load balancing between clouds).

Community cloud. The cloud infrastructure is shared by several organizations and supports a specific community that has shared concerns (e.g., mission, security requirements, policy, and compliance considerations). It may be managed by the organizations or a third party and may exist on premise or off premise.

Let’s clear the business skies of Cumulus Clouds and get to IT.

CDE satellite Blog

Posted by Adoddle on 16-Apr-2015 05:54:00

I read somewhere recently about CDE constellations and satellite CDE thinking.....well, I nearly fell off my cloud in disbelief!! The whole idea around CDE is that it is common and available for each and EVERY individual member of the supply chain. Once a model is constructed well and is housed in a pure collaborative Cloud Model Server (cCMS) like Adoddle then it is available to the entire family.

Selfish BIM is not the way forward, it is the way backwards. By having a centrally hosted CMS with the ability for each family member to check in and check out the smallest object within it, is KEY. And this is not the way forward, IT is the here and now.

Here at Asite, we have been doing this for years and now have over 141,000 models in our cCMS - IT's Federated.

At the end of the day (or project) the model belongs to the client as does the asset - and is craved by the FM folk - let's not think selfish and keep collaborating in one common place - CDE not Silo Data Environments (SDE)
