cBIM - Managing BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) issues for BIM models

As long-term advocates for Open BIM Standards, Asite has enhanced its Collaborative BIM (cBIM) solution with support for Building Collaboration Format (BCF). The new model issue management solution will improve communication and increase collaboration beyond the traditional file-based BIM workflow, enabling better decision making.

The model issue functionality gives users of Asite cBIM a more efficient way to communicate design issues for topics, such as issues, clash, design, risk and safety requests, to be addressed within the BIM model.

The BCF file format is a vendor neutral solution for collaborative design, construction and operation information exchange. All issues can be easily tracked with their statuses. This removes the need to manually locate an issue, using only a description or screenshot, thus speeding up communication between project teams.

Feature Overview

What is BIM Collaboration Format (BCF)?

BCF is simply a file that contains the comments created around IFC models. It allows BIM authoring and coordination applications to communicate model-based issues with each other by leveraging IFC models that have been previously shared among project collaborators. BCF is a buildingSMART International openBIM standard which, like IFC and the Data Dictionary (bSDD), is open for all to use.

How is it used?

Design phase
  • Document quality assurance/quality checking (QA/QC) items of BIMs
  • Identify design coordination (aka clash detection) issues between domain BIMs
  • Annotate design options, object substitutions, and material selections
Procurement phase
  • Bid on coordination items and clarifications
  • Provide cost and supplier information for objects, assemblies, and/or systems
Construction phase
  • Document quality assurance/quality checking (QA/QC) records of installations vs. BIMs
  • Track availability of items/materials and coordinating substitutions
  • Collect last-minute information for handover to owner/operator as part of the COBie deliverables
Operations phase
  • Add notations to handover models as changes are made to the facility and its many elements during occupation
  • Provide owners with notes on necessary upgrades

BCF Support in Asite
  • Supports the creation of BCF Issues around IFC files in Asite.
  • Organizes and manages BCF issues with statuses and priorities.
  • Supports automated workflows for BCF Issues.
  • Supports BCF export.

Files - Save time and improve efficiency using automatic upload of secondary files in bulk.

Asite has enhanced its robust Common Data Environment (CDE) solution to enable project teams with the ability to upload secondary files in bulk. Once a secondary file is uploaded, it will automatically be attached to the primary file based on the filename.

Here is a quick overview of the feature

Bulk upload of secondary file

When uploading files in bulk, you can now drag and drop or browse and select multiple secondary files in the upload interface. The files will be uploaded to Asite and automatically attached to the corresponding primary files.

Automatic matching of secondary file

If your primary files and secondary files have the same file name (minus the extension), the system can automatically match the secondary files with the primary files when uploading in bulk.
For example, to attach your .dwg files as secondary files to your primary .pdf files, ensure to keep the same file name on both extensions and the system will automatically match them together when uploading them in bulk.

Asite CDE: cBIM Updates

cBIM: Comparison for Revit files.

Asite has upgraded its Digital Engineering tool to enable Designers, project managers, and engineers to use the version compare tool and highlight the differences between two Revit file versions.

Here is a quick overview of the new feature:

Revit file compare

    • Using the compare tool improves the understanding of the design changes between versions of a Revit file but also provides online visualization of the file content without need of native revit software.
    • Use the tool to understand what was added, removed or modified and even dig into the details of different versions to understand the changes better.
    • To start using the compare tool, simply choose a Revit file that has multiple versions and select the “Compare” drop-down list in the online Asite 3D viewer, select the two versions to compare and then click the “Run” button. Wait for a few seconds for both models to be loaded and their data to be compared with differences of added, removed, modified.
    • The RAG color palette will indicate the number of any additions, removals or / and modifications. And selecting an item in the change list will highlight that object in the model view.
    • The Revit objects can be added to the Objects list function within List Builder. Use this objects list to create new form (RFI / Variation / Issue / Defect) and initiate colloration with team members.

Posted by Denis Antony on Nov 7, 2020 5:04:38 AM

Asite Platform – Visual Workflow updates

Here is a quick overview of the new features:

Visual Workflow - Enhancing the document review process

Project teams can now take full control of the document review and commenting process.

Key highlights:

Project Administrators can now configure system tasks via groovy script and apply them on folders to automatically control the commenting process based on the user’s project role.

A sample groovy script is available. Please refer to the web-help for the groovy script and steps on the configuration.

FAQs:

  • Will I be able to control the private/public comment option according to user role?
Yes, you can configure the visibility and set the default comment setting for any role as private/public and non-editable/editable.
  • Will I be able to configure multiple roles in the configuration?
Yes, you can mention multiple project roles in the configuration so that if the comment creator holds one of these roles, the configuration would apply automatically.

Asite 20.9

Posted by Denis Antony on May 9, 2020 1:19:00 AM

Enhancements to our international- scale Software as a Service (SaaS) platform

At Asite we remain focused on ensuring business continuity for everyone using the Asite platform and facilitating the delivery of capital projects and infrastructure developments around the world.

Asite’s CEO, Nathan, has highlighted our commitment to continue to deliver at the highest levels in all circumstances and maintain platform resiliency, performance, and security.

We continue to deliver on our promises and are excited to announce our latest upgrade to the Platform: Asite 20.9 – an enhancement of our international-scale Software as a Service (SaaS) platform.

Here is a quick overview of the new features:

Common Data Environment (CDE)

Improved control of private distribution groups with Asite CDE

We are committed to helping you take full control of your data and who gets to see it when. Asite now enables fine-grained visibility management of private distributions at object-level, namely distribution groups, role, organization, and user-level. This feature will prove beneficial to project members who switch roles and need full access to all private information, including historic project information. It also allows Administrators to track and assign visibility in two-clicks.

Fast and simple column filtering

You can now quickly filter directly from your column lists without the added overhead of building search queries. It’s just as easy as filtering on a column in an Excel sheet.

Calculation wizard for your Apps with Asite AppBuilder

Enhance your App design by using the calculation wizard to display calculated fields on your form or use them for conditional display

Create any Form on a Calibrated Drawing with Field Management

Asite allows site users to create any type of form on a calibrated drawing, enabling them to pin-point the form to a specific location on the project. Project teams can now easily track all outstanding site tasks, such as Defects, Snags, Punchlists, Checklists, Inspections, and manage Inspections online or offline.

Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Capital Project Owners and Prime Contractors can now fast-track prequalification by issuing invitations to external subcontractors directly from Asite. This feature significantly broadens the audience of potential subcontractors for project owners, saving time in the procurement process. For subcontractors, this means you can express interest and participate with no subscription hassle and zero barriers to entry.

Asite is also introducing an intuitive interface that allows project owners to quickly onboard subcontractors into their supply chain network. The enhancements offer easy configuration and customization of prequalification templates to source suppliers and keeps procurement costs down.

We recognize the importance of your feedback and continually work to improve the Asite platform with new features and improvements. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with your comments and suggestions.
